Really like the format. Only wonder is whether the use of numbers as the reference scales well. Last thing we want to do is reindex all of these everytime we add a new footnote.

I'd imagine we could just use [2]
for the next one and continue to increment as needed, expecting a very low volume? I'm not sure something very descriptive (like dicom-8.0.0
) is very nice to read, but open to a middle ground if you have an idea.

I guess I liked the format enough that I was considering whether old entries like 7.1.0 should be updated accordingly. But neither this nor the discussion on the numbering scheme needs to hold the release either way.
We can discuss during an upcoming formats meeting how to handle this moving forward
