Connecting the iCOMOX

  1. Open the iCOMOX Evaluation Kit.

  2. Connect the wireless USB dongle into one of your PC USB ports. Note which USB port you are using. You should consider this for the iCOMOX monitor and for the Serial Mux installation (see section: Serail Mux).

  3. Connect the iCOMOX to the PC via the USB cable supplied.

  4. Power on the iCOMOX using the slide switch on the side panel of the iCOMOX (Figure below). Watch the green LED blinking indicating the iCOMOX runs an internal health check. When that green LED changes from blinking to solid, that means the iCOMOX is ready.

Installing the environment (first time only)

If this is NOT the first installation, you may skip this section and go directly to the next section.

FTDI D2XX driver

D2XX drivers allow the iCOMOX Monitor (and other applications as well) direct access to the USB device through a DLL. To install the driver from FTDI website:

  1. Go to https://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/D2XX.htm

  2. Press the setup executable which is often found on the top-right side of the table (see figure below).

Serial Mux

The Serial API Multiplexer (Serial Mux) is a windows service that allows for multiple iCOMOX concurrent connections to the PC. To install the SerialMux:

  1. Go to https://www.shiratech-solutions.com/products/iCOMOX/ and download zip archive file named SerialMuxInstaller with the Serial Mux version appended.

  2. Unzip the installer zip archive.

  3. Launch the Serial Mux Installer (setup.exe).

  4. Follow the Installation Wizard to install the Serial Mux. A shortcut will be added to your desktop. The Serial Mux requires the VC++ 2010 runtime library. If the system does not have this library installed, the installer will request permission to install it. You must allow the installer to install the runtime library for the Serial Mux to function properly.

  5. When the Configuration screen appears (Figure below), enter the COM port that was assigned to the wireless USB dongle Serial API when you connected the wireless USB dongle.

Figure: Configuring the COM port of the SerialMux

The API serial port will be the 4th one in the list of 4 devices installed when the FTDI driver was installed. For example, if serial ports COM3, COM4, COM5 and COM6 were installed, the API port would be the fourth one of these, COM6.

iCOMOX Monitor

  1. Go to https://www.shiratech-solutions.com/products/iCOMOX/ and download zip archive file named iCOMOX_Monitor_Rev_XXXX.zip (XXXX is the monitor version).
  2. Unzip the installer zip archive.
  3. Launch the iCOMOX Monitor Installer (setup.exe).

Launching the monitor

  1. Launch the iCOMOX Monitor through the icon on the desktop .

  2. After a couple of seconds (up to 40 seconds at the first time), the monitor appears on the screen (Figure below). The USB indication is red, and the detected COM port shows the com number. If the detected COM port is empty turn the iCOMOX off and then on.

Figure: The iCOMOX monitor after launching

  3. Press the Connect button at the top right corner of the monitor. After 1-2 seconds, the USB indication turns green and the PC starts communicating with the iCOMOX (Figure below).

  4. TBD – SmartMesh communication indicator

  5. After 1-2 seconds, The FFT plot start showing live FFT analysis of the vibrations (left-hand side plot) and the magnetic field (righthand side plot). The horizontal axes of the plots are the frequency in Hz in logarithmic scale, and the vertical axes of the plots are the amplitude in dB.

  6. The axis selectors are used to select between the X-, Y- and Z-axis.

  7. The temperature indicator indicates live temperature in oC.

  8. The motor speed indicator indicates the live motor speed in RPM.
