Face Shields

mikeabuilder edited this page Apr 7, 2020 · 7 revisions

This wiki page it the top level page for the BARN ETA face shield efforts.

Project Goals

  1. Provide face shields to local first responders.
  2. Coordinate interaction with local first reponders in need to understand their needs and which face shield designs they will accept and which they prefer.
  3. Provide a way for individuals with 3D printers to contribute by printing parts (and assembling face shields?).
  4. Coordinate interaction with local first reponders in need to understand their needs and which face shield designs

Current Activities

  • 4/7 - We are recommending that people that have 3D printers and want to contribute NOW prin parts for face shields that we will collect and deliver to "MasksforDocs". We have a special wiki page with more info: MasksForDocs info page.
  • 4/7 - You can also contribute by printing prusa face shields that are defined here. Please read the pdf for details. Completed parts can be dropped off at BARN. in a bin at the front of the building. In order to help minimize possible contamination, parts should be handled wearing gloves and a facemask while printing, and be placed in a sealed plastic bag before delivering to BARN.
  • 4/5 - Doug has been meeting with members of Bainbridge Prepares (link needed here). Mostly, they have been telling him they are finding commercial sources, but recently have been considering locally made devices. Doug is meeting with them to shown them samples of various designs and find out which they prefer (and which they reject).
  • 4/5 Bill has been in contact with at least one doctor from Harrison Hospital and is working to understand their design requirements.

Expected future activities

  • Once Bainbridge Prepares decides on a design and we understand the volume needed, we will put out a "Call to Action" to print as many parts as needed.
  • Once we have a firm request from Harrison Hospital decides on a design and we understand the volume needed, we will put out a "Call to Action" to print as many parts as needed.
  • There is debate on slack about which (if any) design we should "just make" ahead of a specific request. This may yield a decision, and a call to action to print a specific number of parts to hold in inventory at ETA, awaiting a customer. The debate is on slack, and some design criteria are listed on this wiki page: (Face Shield design criteria)
