Compatdata

A compatdata directory is a directory, which is used by Proton to store the the Wineprefix and some other proton related files for a game. It can be found in the "compatdata" directory in the steam library besides the "common/game-directory".

Proton uses the variable STEAM_COMPAT_DATA_PATH for this directory.

Possible breakage of a compatdata directory can be circumvented by using a Compatdata Redirect option With a 2nd Compatdata Redirect option it s also possible to use one compatdata for multiple games.

steamtinkerlaunch also offers an easy option to Recreate Proton compatdata or simply delete it
