What's the mod about
Killing mobs and getting loot. Pretty much. You like getting cool loot with random stats that can be awesome and power up your character? Mod is probably for you. The mod has many features like: talents, spells, professions, potions, foods, weapons, armor, custom stats etc.
This mod is not very compatible with gear from other mods by default. This is by design, to make sure some semblances of balance exists in modded minecraft. I made sure gear with my mod's stats is what you'll want. Basically, vanilla minecraft has no leveling (no the enchanting xp doesn't count), but this mod has gear that INCREASES in strength the higher level it is. That of course means, eventually it becomes better than other modded gear. Some players hate that, so I made a config option that gives stats to gear from other mods too! That option has flaws and doesn't work for every item though. Things like guns and other weird weapons probably won't work. So if you absolutely hate not being able to use some boomerang thingie from some mod, then this mod might not be for you. In short, this mod CHANGES how minecraft is played, it doesn't just add gear and weapons, it makes sure those gear and weapons are best. You could say this mod is essentially a modpack maker, you center your modpack around it. You can't just add it to a kitchen sink pack.
Well, you kill mobs and get combat experience. That levels you up and you gain stat and talent points. Now you can wear better gear, you get that gear by killing mobs. Very simple right? Well not exactly. If you are trying to game the mod you WILL have a hard time! Yes I know you players are smart and will want to go to level 50 mobs and kill them with lava, and power level yourselves super fast. Surely.. I the mod dev didn't think of that, right? :) Wrong!
