One of the signature systems of The Burning Wheel, the duel of wits mechanic brings as much detailed mechanical weight to social encounters as some systems give to combat ones.
The dialog attempts to provide a reasonable environment for the players and GM to play through the procedure of a Duel of Wits without having to rely on external prop like card deck modules and other out of system dependencies.
- A dropdown for selecting the two parties that are involved with the duel.
- Each party gets a text area for their statement of purpose.
- GM only button which allows to clear all active participants and reset the form to the default state.
- GM only button that allows to reset the scripted actions and hide each volley in a given round without clearing any of the participants.
- GM only buttons that reveal the scripted actions in a given volley.
- Dropdown visible to the owner of the participant's actor. Allows the player to script whatever action they want to undertake that volley.
- Numeric inputs for holding the remaining and initial body of argument amounts for each side.
- For convenience, a social skill belonging to the participant character may be selected from the dropdown and rolled directly from the form.
- GM only button which allows the GM to blind themselves regarding the actions that are being scripted by a specific player.
- Scripted actions appear here. If a character is owned by a player, they can see all the actions that were scripted by them all the time. Otherwise, unless the volley has been revealed by the GM, they only see the "card back" of the action with the wheel icon.
