- Tried installing components wmp9, wmp9codecs, ffdshow, devenum, quartz, no go
- Tried converting videos to mpeg4/mp3 with ffmpeg -i source target, but no change

- amstream component: audio + black screen for intro video. Game does no longer start after that
- worked by converting videos to mpeg2/mp3 using ffmpeg!
- Disabling Cinepak in ffdshow seems to be a known workaround to get the game to start under Windows... http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/archive/index.php/t-686360.html

- Win98 compatibility: crashes just a little later
