Sprint 1

1. Selected problem, the proposed solution, its revenue model and the value proposal

1.1 Selected problem

The main problem is how universities and college students make clubs and events. These are important for stuff like studying, fun, dancing, and sports. But right now, making these groups at university is more complicated than desired. This problem doesn't let people with similar interests get together and make friends. Also, the only channel for the university to promote academic events is the e-mail and Uniandes app (which not many students use). This way the university doesn't tell students about events well enough, so many of them miss out on stuff they'd like to do.

1.2 Proposed solution

We present an innovative application that consolidates the process of organizing events and facilitates the creation and management of interest-based groups. This approach aims to simplify the experience for both students and the university, making event creation and group formation more accessible. Our goal is to engage a wider range of students, including those who typically don't attend events, by uniting them through shared interests and encouraging greater participation.

1.3. Revenue Model

Hive operates as an open-source platform with a commitment to user privacy and an ad-free experience. The primary sources of revenue for Hive are donations from users who value the platform and the responsible selling of anonymized user data.

Data monetization: Hive responsibly monetizes user data by selling aggregated and anonymized insights to third-party organizations interested in demographic trends, user behavior, or market research.
Donations: Hive encourages users who find value in the platform to make voluntary donations to support its development and maintenance.

Benefits

  • Hive remains an open-source project, promoting transparency and community-driven development.
  • Donations from users who value the platform help sustain Hive's growth and continued improvement.
  • User data is treated with care, and users have the choice to participate in data sharing, aligning with privacy-conscious principles.
  • Users enjoy an ad-free environment without intrusive advertisements, enhancing their overall experience.

Considerations

  • Hive must be transparent about its data practices, ensuring users are aware of how their data is used and protected.
  • Data selling must strictly adhere to ethical guidelines, protecting user privacy and complying with relevant data protection regulations.
  • Hive should strike a balance between data monetization and user privacy to maintain trust and sustainability.

1.4. Value Proposal

Hive is your go-to platform for Uniandes students, offering a one-of-a-kind space for all sorts of important events, whether they're academic gatherings, student initiatives, or even events organized by fellow students.
