Force field projector
Force fields are your ship's first line of defense. They complement your ship hull with a different type of protection from direct hit and explosions. At the heart, force field is shaped by Force field projector holding 1 or 2 Electromagnetic projectors, each covering an hemisphere.
The first Electromagnetic projector was installed in a tritium mine on the 5th moon of Klapson II. Protecting the site from meteor showers, it allowed the use of open sky mining, hence drastically reducing operation costs. It didn't take long for its creator, Phlem'WYOM, to create a more portable version to mount aboard ships. It quickly became a standard ordinance on all ships, making the fortune of its parent company, the Wyom Weapons Megacorp.
Many upgrades exists to customize your Force fields.
Double sided projectors requires 2 Electromagnetic projectors and 2 Shape items. They are slightly faster and more energy efficient, hence in most cases, they're preferred to single sided projectors.
Force field is produced from energy (wip: ionized dust), stored in the projector itself (wip).
Each force field block has an adjustable beam frequency from 1 to 65000, included. Default beam frequency is 0, which is invalid.
Depending on its frequency, the force field color will change, along with its laser absorption rate. More importantly, when two Projector or Relay share the same frequency, they are considered part of the same network.
Beam frequency is set through tuning forks. To fine tune your beam frequency, you will need to attach a ComputerCraft or OpenComputers router and wire it to a computer.
Your force field setup is formed from multiple blocks, linked together through the same Beam frequency. Furthermore, networking only works for blocks up to 20 m apart from each others.
Basic shapes are defined through masks placed on each projector. It comes down to plane, sphere, cube and various cylinders. Using a fusion upgrade, ones can merge multiple shape and support unlimited ship size and designs.
Initially, the force field shape is centered around its projector, oriented the way the projector was placed. You can offset the centering after adding a Translation upgrade. You can adjust the orientation after adding a Rotation upgrade. Translation and rotation values are adjusted using a computer from ComputerCraft or OpenComputers. When rotating your shape, you might want to consider adding a few thickness upgrades too.
For bigger ships, you can increase the range using the related Range upgrade.
Force field tier is defined by the related projector tier; it'll increase its durability and explosion resistance. When it's damaged, a force field downgrade to a lower tier until it disappears.
Higher tier projectors can hold more energy and have stronger effect from directly mounted upgrades.
When placing a single sided force field projector, keep the projected area behind you. The projecting side is visible on the block texture, representing the current shape modification.
Right click a projector with a shape in hand to apply it. Existing shape will be returned. You'll need 2 shape modification to change a double sided projector.
Right click a projector with an upgrade in hand to apply it. Shift-right click a projector to dismount an upgrade. You might need an empty hand for that.
Projectors keep their shape, upgrade and Beam frequency when broken.
