Rate of justice establishments
Dimension: Response capacity
Area: Institutional capacity
Category: Justice
Definition: The rate of justice establishment measures the physical presence of offices related to the administration and enforcement of the law. The two main branches that should be included are the justice system (number of courts) and the prosecutor's office presence. This is another indicator that makes it possible to measure access to justice since it is important to have nearby justice establishments to obtain the services required in case of violence or other extreme situations.
- Unit of measure: Justice establishments
- Formula:
Numerator: # of justice establishments
Denominator: Total population
Data sources:
- National census
- National justice system
- Prosecutor's office
Comments and limitations: It's important for this indicator to only measure establishments where people can access justice-related services. Other establishments like administrative buildings are of no interest for this indicator.
