Dimension: Response capacity
Area: Institutional capacity
Category: Education
Definition: The student-teacher ratio measures the number of students there are per teacher. The concept behind this ratio is that smaller groups that a teacher must handle tend to be better because it allows a more personalized education for pupils. It’s also a measurement that helps to understand the allocation of human resources in the education system (OECD, 2019).
- Unit of measure: number of students
- Formula:
Numerator: Number of students at all educational levels.
Denominator: Number of teachers at all educational levels.
Data sources:
Comments and limitations: This indicator includes all educational levels. It should be analyzed whether it is of interest to have a disaggregation by educational level.
