Specification

The target audience for this test were the users outside of our studio with ages ranging from 16 -25. In our testing we reached users within the age bracket of 18 - 22. A think allowed interview was conducted with 5 participants at the beginning of the sprint and again at the end of the sprint to gain insights of the improvement needed during the sprint and for future aspirations.

Purpose

The purpose of the test was to know what are users general opinions on the eel. This includes:

  • Is the functionality and interaction of the eel intuitive?
  • Can users see the eel?
  • Are the settings applied to the eel appropriate for game play?

Design of Tests

To meet the goals of the test, users played the game whilst speaking their thought process. To begin with they were briefed with an introduction to gain familiarity in the game. Their comments were noted down and then compared.

Analysis and Summary

From the tests conducted at the beginning of the sprint it was clear that users agreed that the eel compared to the projectile was not proportional. This coincided with seperate user testing done for eel projectiles and therefore was focussed on during the sprint. Further the fact that the eel was not moving was very confusing for the users and therefore the testing highlighted the importance of animations and movement during the sprint.

From the final test, improvements can be seen from both implicit and explicit comments by the users. There were significantly less questions asked regarding how do to do something and the pop up guiding users to kill enemies was very helpful in reducing confusion during this part of the game. This implies that the game play during the time enemies spawn is less confusing for users. Furthermore, users liked the look of the projectile which was an improvement however some commented that they came on very fast and were sometimes hard to dodge. Therefore this is something that could be improved on in future endeavours of Atlantis Sinks.
