Pixel frames

As seen below, 10 individual frames were created for the final boss animations for each direction (20 total). The frames were based on the previous user feedback. Frame 1, 9 and 10 for each side are the same image and show the final boss in its original standing position (i.e. wings are in their upright resting position and there is no fire coming from its mouth). Having 3 repeat frames of the final boss in its original standing position means that the animation frames can be implemented in a fixed or infinite loop as there is an appropriate resting period between each breath of fire and flap of its wings.

Additional user interviews confirmed that these animations enhanced the boss enemy's associations with "danger" and "evilness" in the view of the user, with both interviewees describing the character as "evil", a "villain" and "scary". One interviewee justified his description of the character as "scary" by the fact that it is "throwing flames" and another interviewee stated that its "flapping wings" and the fact its "breathing fire", makes her believe it would have a similar role to Bowser in Super Mario Bros (which is a boss enemy). Refer to the notes from the user interviews for the raw data.
